Built world productivity.
We're on a mission to bring technology that actually works for the construction industry.
Our Manifesto
It felt important to us to let you know why we created Fieldworks.ai, how we want to help the industry, and what you can expect from us down the line.
The construction industry is about people sharing a passion. The construction industry is beautiful and rewarding but exhausting at the same time. It takes a lot of passion to stay in the industry for one's entire career. At Fieldworks.ai, we love the people who build things. We have ultimate respect and admiration for those who turn sheets of paper and digital designs into landmarks that change our landscape.
It's a tough career when you hear all day that 'productivity is declining'. We won't dare wave around the loss of productivity graph that every construction consulting firm reproduces every few years. What's grossly overlooked in these studies is the insane frequency of design changes, the lack of scrutiny over design quality, and the thinning construction profitability margins due to the outrageous cost of construction software - the same software that enables even more frequent design changes. What a paradox!
The frequency of design changes is insane. The last two decades of technology adoption have enabled more design changes to take place. Construction drawing platforms were brought forward as tools to help construction offices run projects more efficiently, so that all communication would be captured and accessible in one platform. Instead, they've made changes much easier to issue.
The quality of design is not great. Now, hear us out. We don't intend to make enemies with architects, designers, and construction engineers. You are also victims of the ease at which design changes can be issued. Because changes are expected to be 'easy to make', you need to re-design far more often than you used to. Owners have their role to play in this too.
The cost of construction software is outrageous. Technology has enabled design changes to happen faster, but even worse, now a contractor can't survive without using technology to keep up. It's become part of the expectations to use platforms for submittals, change orders, requests for information, etc.
At Fieldworks.ai, we are committed to staying frugal. We understand why other construction software companies charge as much as they do: they pursued VC funding and are expected to provide a 100x return on investment, they maintain big and expensive sales, GTM, and customer success teams, and they have other overhead expenses like offsites and expensive office building leases.
'Everybody uses BIM and design is well coordinated' is an aspiration, not reality. What we've observed is that many promises were made to the construction industry about various 'innovations.' For example, Building Information Modeling was promoted as a set of workflows and tools to eliminate field rework and clashes. As a result, the industry placed significant bets on Augmented Reality as well. The reality is that decades later, groups and non-profits focused on PDF 'standards' are flourishing—proving that a significant amount of work is still done using PDFs.
Our Commitment
We build tools for passionate builders, not for corporate bureaucracy.
We enhance existing workflows rather than forcing you to learn new ones.
We will always maintain a free version of Fieldworks.ai.
We operate frugally so you never pay inflated prices for essential features.
We stay grounded in job site reality, not construction tech hype.
